Mount Pleasant Central Schools Superintendent Kurtis Kotes issued an alert to parents on Friday, Dec. 14 cautioning that on Thursday, Dec. 13, two students were followed after being let out at their designated bus stop near the station.
As the student and her sibling walked toward their home, they sensed that they were being followed, Kotes said. The two were able to get back safely and promptly alerted their parents. The family and the school district then contacted police in an attempt to identify the suspect.
Kotes said the Royal Coach Bus Company was also made aware of the suspicious situation and “is working with the district closely to continue to ensure the safety of our students.”
“While this situation thankfully ended without incident, it is a good time to take the opportunity to remind everyone to be extra vigilant and pay attention to their surroundings,” Kotes wrote in an email. “Parents and caregivers should remind their children to be alert as they exit the bus if they are not being accompanied by an adult. We, unfortunately, live in a time that it is imperative to take precautions to maintain a safe environment.
“The safety and security of our students is of utmost importance to us. We are taking this situation very seriously and are working hard to put further preventative measures in place for the future.”
